This photoshoot was taken at the family home in early Autumn.  I’m always nervous before a photoshoot, will the clothing work, how is the light, what is my background, but I’m never really nervous about the kids.  I haven’t had a session yet when I haven’t been able to work with the children.  For me my first task it to create a connection with them, so that they relax and I can direct them while still having some fun. Mike and Rhoda feel in love with New Zealand while on holiday and like many that now live in Wanaka, decided to move here.I had the privilege of photographing them with their extended family who were visiting from the States. I have to confess to being a Mum who has occasionally taken her kids to school with her PJ's under her trackies. (“Mum, don’t you dare get out of the car!”)  One morning I woke up feeling slightly on the wrong side of the wonderful and I donned my less than vogue PJs/Trackie pants outfit to drop off the kids. As I arrived home I decided that a mood change was required and the morning was too beautiful to be wasted, so I grabbed my camera and my hairy children (the dogs) and off to lake we went. I often take snaps of my children but don't often take time out of my busy life to take those special images that will go into albums, be sent to grandparents and go on my walls.   Inspiration comes at all sorts of times, but for my somewhat impromptu family shoot, the location and the bed formed into a plan while I was on a run.  The bed was outside someone’s house with a sign "take me" and that’s what I did - well with my husband, Dale.  He did think it was a bit odd when I told him I wanted to take it down to the lake.
